We apologize for not keeping this blog as fancy as our wine sales website and our html newsletter. Soon we will have a blog internal on our new website. And when I say new, boy do I mean it this time. Stay tuned, it's almost complete.
As soon as we have a new rss feed we will post it here as well.
Cheers!

FEATURED WHITE WINES
2005 PETER FRANUS, Sauvignon Blanc, Carneros--$18.50
Yet,
another homerun for Mr. Franus. This guy is on a roll. It's almost like
that old obnoxious label did something to the wine. Whatever happened
it's good news for you because this stuff is Tony the Tiger GREEAAT!!!
The wine was cold fermented to preserve the bright fruit, aged in
neutral puncheons to soften the texture without imparting oak flavors
and then, believe it or not they put it in glass bottles. Flavors of
lemon-lime, ginger, lemongrass and a nuance of mint make for a
refreshing and satisfying drinking experience. Firm acidity makes it an
excellent selection to pair with many foods and it's refreshing during
or after a busy wok day. Only 582 cases were produced.
2005 SIGNORELLO, "SETA", Napa Valley White Wine(60% Semillon, 40% Sauvignon Blanc)--$25.00
Yummy.
What a cool wine this is. Are you bored with fat, oaked-up Chard that
makes you feel like barfing after two glasses, if you can even swallow
it? Well, I am. This gorgeous estate grown blend is uniquely delicious
and such a refreshing departure from the norm. The Sauvignon Blanc give
it brightness and acidity, the Semillon helps round it out and adds a
subtle richness and the conservative use of oak should make this
appealing to almost any Chard drinker with an open mind and mouth.
Probably one of the most overlooked great whites in Napa, you'll be
stoked you got some once it's on your buds. For 25 bucks it possesses a
lot of flavor, quality and purity. Highly recommended.
2004 BRICELAND VINEYARDS, Chardonnay, Humboldt County--$22.00
It
wouldn't be a Groezy newsletter without some Briceland wines. From the
land of world famous redwoods and weed comes this fantastical
Chardonnay that won't make you puke from oak poisoning. This Chard is
crisp and clean, flavorful and complete, has the acidity to pair with
food other than pancakes or popcorn and won't break the bank. We've
been pouring this lately and selling like it was the best thing out of
Humboldt County. I would be doing you a disservice if I didn't remind
you about the 2004 Briceland, Phelps Vineyard, Pinot Noir on the front
page.

FEATURED RED WINES
2003 REDMON FAMILY VINEYARDS, Cabernet Sauvignon, St. Helena, Napa Valley--$52.00 (144 cases)
Here's
a wine you probably haven't heard of, seen or tasted. But that's why
you read this thing and why you hopefully trust us to hook you up with
the goods. This is one of the last remaining dry farmed vineyards in
Napa making their flavors intense and concentrated unlike many of those
greedy, over-cropping, flavor-diluting, 16%-alcohol- producing wineries
that have lost touch with what the word purity means. And this
ultra-rare treasure will age for a good long while as it survived four
days in the Groezinger glass test. A rich, velvety texture leads into
the complex palate possessing flavors of raspberry, black cherry,
cocoa, Asian spice, white pepper and cigar box nuances. 70% new French
oak was used and the wine spent 23 months in the barrels. It whomps and
stomps on Cabs at twice the price and won a double gold medal athe the
S.F. International Wine Competition which is a pretty big deal. It's
like three puffs, five stars or 95 points. Don't miss this truly
gorgeous micro-production Napa Cab.
2004 STORYBOOK MOUNTAIN VIN., "ANTAEUS" -$36.50 (59%Zin, 21%Cab, 15%Merlot,5%Pet.Verdot)
Dr.
Jerry Seps has just killed two ducks with ANTAEUS, the son of water and
earth in Greek mythology. Whether the paraduxx drowned or just crashed
into the dirt we don't know. What we do know is that this stuff kicks
serious ass on the few other Zin based blends in Napa and Sonoma and is
some of the best juice available from the caves of Storybook Mouintain.
It's as good as the reserve Zin with a dose of ballsy Cab, a bit of
Merlot and Petit Verdot for extra dark color. The wine is expressive of
its terroir, red clay soils and a cool (temperature) site. The flavors
are bold and forward giving up blackberry, spicy black cherry,
bittersweet chocolate and a mellow earthieness up front while the
finish goes on and on with nuances usually found in Bordeaux and the
Rhone Valley. If you're a fan of Storybook's wines or just really high
quality reds at really reasonable prices, this is for you.
2001 MOUNT EDEN VINEYARDS, Merlot, Santa Cruz Mountains, Estate Grown--$25.00
Bring
it on Miles!! When we tasted this incredible Merlot we were like, "Holy
SHIOAGHT, how much is this stuff?" Then they told us the price and we
were like, "FAAAACK, let's order as much as we can. Then they told us
how much we could have and we were back to saying the same stuff. This
is the best Merlot we've had in a long time and with a small amount of
bottle age it is drinking like a champ. I thought it would have been
twice the price. Then I remembered that MEV isn't one of those greedy,
over-cropping, flavor-diluting, 16%-alcohol- producing wineries that
have lost touch with what the word purity means. Sound familiar? Bold
mountain flavors of cherry, spice and mushroom are complimented by a
loamy, delicately earthy mid palate. It's seductive and sexy,
ultra-balanced with a texture rarely found in California wines and has
a finish that could last six days, maybe six weeks, I doubt six months.
BILLECART-SALMON, BRUT ROSE, Champagne--$80.00
Often
considered the finest rose Champagne in the world it is becoming harder
to find due to limited importing. Here's your big chance to get some.
We don't have much so I won't bother telling you how unbelievably
freaking awesome it is and how your lover will let you do anything you
want shortly after serving it to them.
2004 HENDRY, Zinfandel, Block 7, Napa Valley--$26.50
Ready
for a killer Zin? If you're not, then quit reading and move on to the
Kuleto. But if you do want the finest Zin from the Superfly himself,
you should load up on this stuff. We're predicting a fall in
temperature over the next few months which goes against all this talk
about global warmings. Autumn is coming and the environmentalists can
go chill out and call me in December. How'd you like that one? Cool
weather means you'll need Hendry Zin to warm your soul, serve with
steaks, and to teach your kids the difference between good wine and
great wine. Remember you can't buy class except from Hendry. Rich, bold
flavors leap from the glass and scream ZINFANDEL while the more mellow
and complex side of this wine whispers all the sweet somethings you've
been longing to hear from Zin. See, we don't just sell expensive Cab's
from Napa, Maurine. For a big, bad Leroy Brown styled Zinfandel check
out the-.
2004 HENDRY, Zinfandel, Block
28, Napa Valley--$28.50 Similar to the seven, but bigger, harrier and
more muscley along with a larger number (28>7) which for those who
judge wine by numbers should be very attractive.
2002 KULETO ESTATE FAMILY WINERY, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley--$50.00
On
the hillsides of Pritchard Hill, rockin' restaurateur, Pat Kuleto is
making great wine with the guidance of internationally acclaimed
winemaker Dave Lattin. This Cab is highly rated along with being
delicious. It's a fat assed Cab with flavors of black currant, red
raspberry, anise and mocha. Pat's fat too. A dash of Sangiovese adds
mouthfeel while giving the wine a bit more acidity. It's drinking great
now and will improve for another five years or so.
MORE KILLER CABS
2001 OAKFORD VINEYARDS, Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville, Beckstoffer, To Kalon Napa Valley--$55.00
If
you don't hook up with this stuff, you're missing the boat and all I
can say is, "I tried." The fruit is from the Becksoffer To Kalon
Vineyard and if you know how much those grapes cost you'll know this is
a screaming good deal. Other wineries charge four times as much for
wine from the same grapes. Hobbs, Mondavi, etc. Marco Diguilio makes
this incredibly wonderful, drinkable and very ageable Oakville Cab.
Remember the glory years of Oakford? Well, I think they're back. The
texture is perfect, with a rich mid-palate that gushes flavor and then
just keeps gushing kind of like a Cabernet version of Peter North.
Classic flavors of earth-laden black cherry and cassis are followed up
by a kiss of vanilla and tobacco, and yes this stud has some stamina
with a finish that goes on and on like an oil war except it makes you
real happy instead of pissing you off. Seriously though, you'd be
screwing up and doing yourself a disservice by not hooking up with this
wickedly good deal. And just when you thought it couldn't get better---.
2001 OAKFORD VINEYARDS, Estate Grown, Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville, Napa Valley--$72.00
--we
break out this mind blower on you. Both of these wines are priced with
nice, fat discounts to make sure they get home to you. This production
used to be a hundred bucks and I'm sure someone is still getting that
much for it somewhere. We just had a '97 Oakford Estate recently and
let me tell you, that stuff was OFF THE HOOK!!! If you still have some
you are a very smart person. You'll be equally as brilliant if you get
some of this and lay it down for a few years because it's aging great
and will be perfect when it's 8 to 10 years old. I cannot recommend
these wines enough and truly insist that you get some. This estate
production is a bit bigger than the Beckstoffer and in need of a little
more bottle age for maximum performance. The flavor seriously lingers
on for 15-20 minutes just from a small sip. Only 350 cases were
produced. This is a necessity for the serious Cab lover and collector.
800-356-3970
2004 EDGE, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley--$20.00
Here's
three things you rarely see together. "Napa Valley-Cabernet- twenty
bucks." Say it out loud a few times and give us a call. In addition to
being cheap, it's real good wine and I don't know why it's so cheap.
The package is nice and expensive looking and if you need gifts for the
holidays you should get some of this because people will think you
spent a lot more than twenty smackers. Perhaps the EDGE folks are
laundering money or they were geeks in school and want to make friends.
Dark in color, phat on the palate with a long clean finish, it tastes
like forty bucks.
The reason we don't carry more twenty dollar Cabs is most of them taste like grocery store schlock because they are.

DEAR GROEZINGER CUSTOMER,
HOT, HOTTER, HOT AS HELL! That's the weather prediction for the next thousand years. As I was reading in Newsweak, global warming is over. It's now officially warm. Even Pat Robertson said on the 700 Club recently that it's time to start drinking heavily. The good news is that we've got a cool place to put your wine until God forgives humanity and the heat wave breaks. Here's how it works. You call us, buy a bunch of wine, and we put it in cold storage, exercising our superhuman powers of climate control to keep your juice at a constant 55 degree temperature. Think of it as an investment in your future happiness. We keep your cases in the same hole that we keep our personal stashes, insuring you it's kept in perfect condition, and that we've got our own bottles to keep us from drinking yours. The most important part of that equation is that you call us and order wine, so we can keep harassing you by mail instead of via cheesy phone solicitation, which we're not above doing if you don't call us. Your purchases keep us off the streets and keep the air conditioning going for your wines and those of our other customers, so you are essentially contributing to a social service when you order. Our crack legal team has been working on finding a way to make your wine purchases tax deductible. We'll keep you posted. In the meantime, let us keep you updated on our most commonly asked question . . .
"Does Groezinger's still have the phenomenal 3 case shipping deal?" You know we do. Increased fuel costs and more increased fuel costs have raised the prices slightly to $55 for 1 case, $85 for two cases, and $95 for three cases going to non-UPSable states or for those of you that prefer receiving your wine via bootlegger (it's cheaper). A $10 residential delivery fee is waived on purchases of 3 cases or more. We prefer shipping to businesses because you're never home and we need an adult signature for delivery. The costs of shipping boxes and insurance are included in the above quoted prices. WE SHIP ANYWHERE EXCEPT UTAH!!!!!
UPS is available to AK, CA, CO, CT, D.C., FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IA, LA, MI, MO, MN, NC, ND, NE, NH, NV, NY, NM, OH, OR, SC, TX(wet only), VA, WA, WV, WI & WY for around $30-$45 a case depending on how far away you are from us. DEAR GROEZINGER CUSTOMER,
BANG! Oooooooh! BOOM! Aaaaaaah!
July, that great month when we all get to revel in gluttonous and jingoistic celebrations of our blessed lifestyle, and exercise our God-given birth rights, sanctified by the Constitution of this great Nation, to scarf hotdogs by the dozen, guzzle beer by the gallon, and blow shit up with reckless abandon and complete disregard for public safety. But, if you are anything like me (and unfortunately for you, many of you are), after the Fourth has passed, you'll need something to wash the lingering deathly-sick sweet aftertaste of Heinz Catsup, Lucky Strikes, and spent cordite from your brutalized palate. Luckily, wine is about as American as apple pie, as we have become one of the most important wine producing countries in the world. Yeah, that's right. In your face, world! The wines produced in America are as diverse as the people who live here, and all of the big, macho reds, the sexy and cosmetically enhanced whites, and even the queer little pink wines all have their place. Speaking of apple pies, we hear that Congress is going to pass a Constitutional Amendment banning the burning of apple pies, so all you novice pie makers had best watch your asses. We've got a whole bunch of new releases for you this month, along with a few reruns you might have missed the first time around. As an American, I love reruns, especially Dragnet, the Honeymooners, and Leave It To Beaver. Say, have you noticed they never show reruns of M*A*S*H on late night anymore? I wonder why that is? While I was laying in bed pondering the answer to that question, I also wondered . . .
"Does Groezinger's still have the phenomenal 3 case shipping deal?" Then I remembered that we do. Pelerin means pilgrim. As in, "If you know what's good for you, pilgrim, don't eat the red berries. You'll die." Or "Hey, drink this, pale face, it's good for you." This wine qualifies for the later statement. Ultra polished with spicy fruit and hints of bacon fat, this is the truest Nectar.

GOOD GOD! Don't miss this kick ass Rhone style red just because it's hard to pronounce. Stewed red fruit, tobacco, and white pepper. Mmm!

FEATURED RED WINES
2003 LARKMEAD Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate Grown, Napa Valley-$45.00
Larkmead is one of the longest running success stories in Napa Valley, founded in 1892 by Lillie "Firebelle" Hitchcock Coit and her womanizing businessman husband Howard Coit. Yes, the same Coit the unabashedly phallic Coit tower is named after, due to the dual facts that Lillie gave a bunch of money to Frisco upon her death, and also because of her purported love of firemen and their hoses. We love steamy wine country history. History of another sort is still being made by current wine/vineyard gurus and ultra nice guys Andy Smith and Manuel Rios, who are responsible for bringing this masterwork from vineyard (Rios) to barrel and ultimately to bottle (Smith). Extremely precise and multidimensional, this viscous and relatively low acid ruby purple Adonis sings with flavors and aromas dominated by sweet black fruit, licorice, charcoal, and mineral, with whiffs and smacks of subtle mountain herbs, lavender, and mint. The tannins are mouth filling without any hint of green. The blending in of 4% Cab Franc, 3% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec pushes the opulently ripe and dense Cabernet into the Cal-Bordeaux-ifornia zone, flavor wise, which will become more evident over the next five years and hold for the next ten. "Fat Bob" Parker agrees, giving this one ninety three points, which was a few points low by our evaluation. Like the other wines in our catalog this month, the price/quality ratio definitely works to the benefit of the buyer. By the way, we also still have the amazing Right Bank styled 2003 Larkmead "Firebelle" for a mere $41.00. Don't miss these jewels!
2003 BARLOW "Barrouge", 80% Cab / 20% Merlot, Calistoga, Napa Valley-$36.00
Here's a project that keeps getting better and better. Warren, Jeanne, and Barr Smith, with a little help from soon to be famous wine maker Corey Beck, crafted this fantastic spot of vinerferous splendor from Cabernet and Merlot grapes grown on their beautiful estate in Calistoga, in Northern Napa Valley. Most of their fruit gets sold to other wineries, but we have a feeling that the Smith family cherry picks the best lots for themselves. Powerful yet invitingly supple in it's youth, aromas of cherry, black currant , and cedar incense whirl from the deep garnet liquid, inviting the blast of blueberry, crème de cassis, smoked vanilla bean, and subtle cocoa and Asian spice notes across the palate and into the bloodstream, and the lingering finish pushes you relentlessly towards taking another sip. The Merlot component adds a delectable succulence and silky smoothness to the wine, like lingerie for you tongue, while the dense core of Cabernet anchors the wine with structure and mouth filling high tone tannins. Bar none, this is the best Barrouge to date, raising the bar for other reds, gluing your ass to the bar seat to drink a barttle, and gives you, once again, your best opportunity to tell your friends to "get down Barlow me and Barlow me!" We love saying that. Seriously, you'll be very hard pressed to find a wine of this quality at anywhere near this price. Drink it up or cellar for 5-8 years.
2003 SALUS Cabernet Sauvignon, Staglin Family Vineyard, Rutherford, Napa Valley-$60.00
Primarily sourced from the younger vines in the Staglins' organically farmed Rutherford vineyard, intermingled with olive trees, lavender, pea blossoms, and paparazzi, Salus is a Cab which is simultaneously honest and earthy yet extremely sexy and glamorous. Sort of like Shannon Staglin, who is a total babe; we love watching her strut her stuff back and forth across the courtyard outside the rear window of our shop. Made in a slightly more open and accessible style than their flagship wine without sacrificing structure and nuance, the Salus Cab gives up the essence of Rutherford terroir, showing ripe blackberry and boysenberry, plum conserve, and toasty French vanilla oak, with more subtle hints of Nicoise olive, chocolate covered espresso bean, and the elusive "Rutherford Dust". The whole package is nicely framed by ripe tannins and plenty of backbone to age gracefully for a decade or more. A portion of the proceeds of this wine goes to mental health research, so we obviously have a vested interest in selling you this wine. Help fix us. Buy a case. Incidentally, this beverage is a tasty alternative to Prozac, Wellbutrin, and Methadone.
2004 GAMBA Zinfandel, Moratta Vineyard, Russian River Valley, Sonoma-$36.00
If you like 'em wild, wooly, and humungous, this one might be for you. From a vineyard roughly eighty years old, the fruit that created this wine was ripe and intense, to say the very least. Reminiscent of older Martinelli and some of the 70's era Ridge Zins, this wine is not for the faint of heart. You'll probably get a nose bleed from being punched in the face by a fistful of blueberries, stewed plums, cloves, and cinnamon stick. The wine then violently mugs the palate with a port-like intensity and a whopping 16.3% alcohol. Despite its thuggish behavior, the Moratta is surprisingly pure and balanced, like a Hippo on a pin. This is wine for fans of the movie "Fight Club". Parker donned his gladiator outfit and took this one on, giving it 93 points after he recovered from combat related post traumatic stress disorder. If you want to come get some, you better hurry, before our customer Ron in Florida calls and buys us out. Bring it!

2004 BUCKSHOT Shiraz, Buckshot Vineyard, Heathcote, Southern Australia-$29.00
We know you're thinking, what the hell are these guys doing selling Australian wine from their wine shop in Yountville? Well, sometimes people bring us things too damn good to pass up, no matter where they're from. Call it the wine lovers' credo. This wine takes its name from the "Buckshot" pebbles, which are actually combined quartz and ironstone pebbles, riddling the soil of this vineyard, which is not irrigated and yields a microscopic 1 to 2 tons per acre at harvest. This translates to intensity. Add to that a perfect growing season and you have the makings of a classic. I was floored by the aromatics of this wine, which display everything from floral and herbal notes, gravelly minerals, smoked meat, and concentrated red fruits. The palate is like ultra ripe Rhone, with all the complexity and purity of the varietal but no muddled, over oaked characteristics found in many Australian reds. The long arc of a finish reveals even more constantly changing flavors emerging against the dusty tannins. It is absolutely gorgeous wine, and at under $30 a bottle it is a total steal! Drink it anytime over the next ten years, and we believe you'll find this to be a Chameleon of a wine, always fresh and exciting. We don't get much, and when it's gone it's gone. Hurry!
2003 MIURA Pinot Noir, Pisoni Vineyard, Santa Lucia Highlands-$51.00
We put this on the front page last month, and you missed it, so listen up. The Pisoni vineyard is one of the most revered and highly sought after fruit sources for Pinot in America, by winemakers and consumers alike. Planted to old Burgundian clones on their own root stock, Pisoni vineyard is fanatically farmed for low yields and "Grand Cru" level quality. This wine expresses the terroir of the vineyard like no other we've tasted from this vintage (including Gary Pisoni's own version). Miura owner (and Master Sommelier) Emmanuel Kemiji has managed to capture the sheer power of Pisoni without loosing the acidity, balance, and elegance that characterizes world class Pinot Noir. Full throttle flavors and aromas of deep black cherry and strawberry jam mix with smoke, underbrush, sliced mushroom, and Asian spice. Great with food or on its own, with some bottle age or in its youth, this stuff is a sure thing. Get it?
